Climate Smart Agriculture
Center for Microenterprise Development under the USAID funded Feed-the-Future Rural Resilience program through Mercy Corps is supporting Climate-Smart Agriculture among farmers in three Northeastern States of Nigeria (Gombe, Adamawa and Yobe). CMD works with village savings and loan associations (VSLAs) and savings and credit cooperatives (SACCO). We are carrying out a mix of activities that: - educate our members on climate change, promote agricultural practices that prevent greenhouse gas emissions, and support farmers ability to adapt and mitigate the negative effects of climate change while continuing with our existing programs of access to finance and inputs for farmers and MSMEs through our network of branches. The Program will serve as a platform to:
I. Create awareness about climate change and its impact.
II. Create demonstration farms to show-case climate smart agriculture.
III. Support farmers with technology-based climate smart extension advisory services on good agronomic practices.
IV. Provide farmers with access to quality inputs that facilitates sustainable Climate Smart Agriculture, and
V. Continue to provide access to finance and markets to facilitate the promotion of profitable micro, small and medium enterprises in agricultural value chains.
